“I experienced it through social media.”

I experienced it [anti-immigration hate speech] through social media. Watching political news in the United States, or watching regular citizens discriminate their fellow members of their country just for the way they look. I just watched a video of a white woman who wouldn’t let a black man into HIS OWN apartment building that she resided at as well.

“My parents still managed to push through and support their family any and every way that they could.”

My parents migrated from Sri Lanka. To this day, I see people who are native to this country look at them differently with dissatisfaction simply for their accent. I hear the comments they make towards them. My parents still managed to push through and support their family any and every way that they could.

We feel at home in this country when we can openly celebrate our cultures and traditions in the community and show people where we come from.
