“My family and I first felt Canada was our home when we were Canadian citizens, and was able to vote”

No, I haven’t heard it (anti-immigration hate speech) in my personal life, but I have heard if from the American president on numerous occasion.

I’m from an immigrant family who migrated to Canada. We never came here as landed immigrant and had to fight to get our landed. When my family apply to immigration at first, we did it as a family, so we had was to update our status in order to be eligible to apply. Due to the fact that we came as visitors and our stay had run out, we had to go back home, then apply outside of the country. We had to leave some of our family behind, but it all eventually worked out in the end. My family and I first felt Canada was our home when we were Canadian citizens, and was able to vote. It meant a lot to us that we we able to have a say by voting about our future.
